EY GLobal Services: Mobile World Congress 2019/20
Mobile World Congress is the largest mobile event in the world, bringing together the latest innovations and leading-edge technology from more than 2,400 leading companies.
The theme of the 2019 event was ‘Intelligent Connectivity’ – the term used to describe the powerful combination of flexible, high-speed 5G networks, the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI) and big data.
Under the banner of ‘Next Wave’ (and to encourage innovation and transformation in a disruptive marketplace), EY chose to exhibit for the first time at Mobile World Congress late in proceedings; the agency ‘design and build’ contract only being awarded to Jack Morton Worldwide in December 2018.
I was appointed by Jack Morton Worldwide as the technical production manager responsible for the detailed design development, coordination and execution of the project on the ground in Barcelona.
The scheme comprised of a 200sqm single storey hospitality space designed to create an informal business lounge. It included 6x intimate theatre presentation points for key stakeholders and a small enclosed private meeting area. The footprint was fully enclosed by a 40m long, 3m high glazed perimeter wall to create a premium and enticing invitation-only experience.
The design was underpinned by a large textural backdrop to form a distinct identity, with a flown concave LED screen for standout and visual interest.
Known to have achieved over a 3000% ROI by April 2019, EY planned to return to Mobile World Congress in 2020 with a significantly upgraded double decker stand, but the delivery was abandoned during construction onsite due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
For this reason I have shared the flythrough of the design of the stand that was mid way through construction, produced by Design Director - Matt Watt and with direction from Executive Producer - Tim Manning, on behalf of Jack Morton Worldwide.
